Product information
Product Overview
The 5-pole version of Omron’s G9SA safety relay unit: five safety output contacts plus one auxiliary, one or two input channels. Where the -301 provides three safety poles, this provides five — for circuits that isolate more than one drive, or a drive plus additional load circuits, from a single monitored relay.
This page is written for buyers and maintenance engineers sourcing G9SA-501 as a new part or a replacement. Every specification below is taken from Omron’s own published data for this model; no third-party or estimated figures are used, and where Omron publishes two different figures or two variants for the same parameter, both are shown.
Omron catalogue designation: G9SA safety relay unit. Official catalogue code for this model: G9SA-501.
Why Buyers Specify This Model
Five safety poles, one relay, one monitored state
Where a machine has to isolate a drive plus a second load circuit, or two drives, a five-pole safety relay removes the need for a second relay and the second monitoring channel that goes with it. Fewer devices in the safety chain means fewer things that can fail the monitoring check.
The extra poles cost weight and current, not panel width
Compared with the -301, this model draws 60 mA max. input current against 40 mA, and 2.8 VA / 2.6 W max. on 24 V against 1.8 VA / 1.7 W — and weighs 270 g against 210 g. Worth knowing when the panel’s 24 V supply is already tight: five poles is not free.
Terminal numbering differs from the -301
The auxiliary contact on this unit is 61-62, where the G9SA-301 uses 41-42. On a like-for-like replacement of a -301 with a -501, that is a rewiring job, not a swap. It is stated here so it is not discovered in the panel.
Same family ratings across the range
Rated load, contact resistance, operating and response times, isolation, dielectric strength, vibration, shock and durability are common to the G9SA-301, -501 and -321-T@. That means an upgrade from -301 to -501 changes the pole count and the current draw, not the safety performance characteristics the risk assessment was based on.

Supplied in two supply variants — 24 VAC/VDC and 100 to 240 VAC — and Omron’s ordering information requires the voltage to be specified. Note the auxiliary contact is 61-62 on this model, not 41-42 as on the G9SA-301; the two are not wired identically.
Lifecycle and availability
Omron’s current G9SA datasheet documents this model in full, including the family ratings table that separates G9SA-301/TH301, G9SA-501 and G9SA-321-T@ columns, and the terminal assignment for each. Nothing in the official data carries a discontinuation notice.
On a safety circuit the risk assessment defines the device, so the correct part number is the one the assessment was written around. Give us the existing unit’s label, or the machine’s safety documentation, and we will confirm the pole count, supply voltage and terminal arrangement against the official data before quoting — including flagging the difference in auxiliary contact terminals if a -301 is being replaced by a -501.
Availability, condition of supply and lead time are quoted per enquiry because they depend on quantity and on where the goods are held. We do not publish stock or lead time as fixed figures on this page. Tell us the quantity and the date you need it and we will answer with a firm position rather than a promise.
Official Documentation
The specifications on this page are taken from Omron’s own documents. You can download the source document directly:
- G9SA Safety Relay Unit Datasheet — https://edata.omron.com.au/eData/Safety/G9SA_DS.pdf
Full technical detail — wiring diagrams, derating curves, installation requirements and the complete ordering tables — is in that document. If you need a specific figure we do not show here, ask and we will point you to the exact page rather than paraphrase it.
Ordering This Part
Send us the full catalogue number G9SA-501 (and the model number G9SA-501 you are replacing), the quantity, your delivery address and the date you need the goods. If it is a replacement, attach a photograph of the existing unit’s nameplate — it removes any doubt about the revision, the output type or the supply voltage, which are the three things that most often cause a wrong part to be shipped.
We do not publish stock, condition or lead time as fixed figures here, because they change: they are quoted per enquiry against the quantity and date you actually need. If a machine is down, say so and give us the required window — that is the information that determines how we source it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need the -501 or the -301?
Count the circuits that must be isolated by the safety function. Three or fewer: the -301. Four or five: this model. If you need more than five, the G9SA-EX301 Expansion Unit connects to either unit and adds poles without a second relay.
How does it differ from the G9SA-321-T@?
The -321-T@ is the OFF-delay model: 3PST-NO main contacts plus DPST-NO OFF-delay contacts, with selectable delay times of 7.5 s, 15 s or 30 s in 15 steps. Use it where a drive needs time to run down before the guard unlocks. The -501 has no delay function.
What supply voltage do I need to specify?
Either 24 VAC/VDC or 100 to 240 VAC. On 24 V the consumption is 2.8 VA / 2.6 W max.; on 100 to 240 VAC it is 11 VA max. Give us the panel supply when ordering.
Is an Expansion Unit compatible?
Yes — Omron documents the expansion units as connecting to a G9SA-301, G9SA-501, G9SA-321 or G9SA-TH301. Note the power consumption and input current each carry an additional allowance when an Expansion Unit is connected.
