Product information
Product Overview
A CX5020 Embedded PC CPU module in the -0111 configuration: E-bus, Windows Embedded CE 6 and the TwinCAT 2 PLC runtime. The CX5020 is a DIN rail PC built around an Intel Atom Z530 at 1.6 GHz, with two gigabit Ethernet ports, DVI-D and four USB 2.0 interfaces on the basic CPU module.
It sits between the entry-level CX5010 (Atom Z510, 1.1 GHz) and the higher CX51x0 / CX52x0 generations. Specifications below are Beckhoff’s own published data for this model.
Why Buyers Specify This Model
Reading the “-0111” code on a CX50x0
Beckhoff’s ordering table for the CX50x0 family separates three choices: the I/O system (E-bus or K-bus), the operating system (Windows Embedded CE 6 or Windows Embedded Standard 2009) and the TwinCAT runtime (no TwinCAT, TwinCAT 2 PLC, TwinCAT 2 NC PTP, TwinCAT 3 XAR).
CX5020-0111 is listed as E-bus + Windows Embedded CE 6 + TwinCAT 2 PLC runtime. The neighbouring codes differ in ways that matter: -0110 ships with no TwinCAT runtime at all, -0112 carries NC PTP instead of PLC, and -0115 is the TwinCAT 3 XAR variant.
If you are replacing a unit on an existing machine, the cleanest approach is to read the code off the failed module and match it. Changing the runtime means re-licensing and re-testing the project.
E-bus or K-bus: settled by the code, not the wiring
The leading digit of the CX50x0 order code tells you which I/O system the CPU module connects to — 0 for E-bus, 1 for K-bus. This is not a software setting; it determines which terminal family the controller can drive, and it is fixed at order time.
For a CX5020-0111 that means E-bus: EtherCAT Terminals (ELxxxx). If your installation uses Bus Terminals (KLxxxx) on a K-bus, you need the corresponding K-bus order code, not this one.
Gigabit and DVI-D on the basic module
Unlike the CX5010, the CX5020’s basic configuration includes two 10/100/1000 Mbit/s RJ45 interfaces, DVI-D and four USB 2.0 ports, plus 128 MB Compact Flash and 512 MB RAM (optionally 1 GB ex factory). The IP20 housing measures 100 mm × 106 mm × 92 mm and weighs approximately 575 g.
The 24 V DC supply and the 2 A current supply for the I/O terminals are integrated, so no separate power supply module is needed on the rail — a meaningful difference from the older CX1020/CX1030 generation.

Lifecycle and Successor Models
This model is discontinued. CX5010 / CX5020 are no longer listed in Beckhoff’s current product catalogue, although the CX50x0 manual continues to be maintained by Beckhoff — the version used for this page is dated 2026-04-28.
The successor family is CX52x0 / CX53x0 (Intel Atom). Migration is a platform change with a different housing and a newer OS generation, so an existing TwinCAT project needs re-validation rather than a straight copy.
We source discontinued Beckhoff hardware per unit and verify the order code and condition before quoting. If a part cannot be sourced with confidence we will say so.
Official Documentation
Beckhoff has withdrawn this product’s own web page from beckhoff.com. The specifications on this page therefore come from the manufacturer’s official hardware manual for the base module, which Beckhoff still publishes, plus the official ordering table inside that manual. Check them against the source:
- Manual CX50x0 Embedded-PC (EN, Version 1.9, 2026-04-28) — downloadable PDF from Beckhoff’s documentation server.
- Canonical Beckhoff documentation link for CX5020-0111.
- Beckhoff official product family page — current CX52x0 family, for comparison when a migration is being considered.
Ordering This Part
Tell us the model and, where an order code exists, the complete code — Beckhoff variants differ in ways that matter, as set out above. For discontinued models, a nameplate photograph is the fastest way to confirm exactly what you have.
- Exact model or order code (including any suffix such as
-0111or-ESvariants) - Quantity required
- Whether you need the terminal alone or a complete station with coupler and power supply
- For replacements: a photo of the existing nameplate or the old order code
We confirm availability and condition before quoting. We do not publish stock levels or lead times on this page because they change; ask and we will answer specifically for your requirement.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does CX5020-0111 mean exactly?
Per Beckhoff’s CX50x0 ordering table: E-bus I/O connection, Windows Embedded CE 6 operating system, and the TwinCAT 2 PLC runtime. The basic module also includes two gigabit Ethernet ports, DVI-D, four USB 2.0 ports, 128 MB Compact Flash and 512 MB RAM.
How is the CX5020 different from the CX5010?
Processor speed and interfaces. The CX5010 uses an Intel Atom Z510 at 1.1 GHz; the CX5020 uses an Atom Z530 at 1.6 GHz and adds gigabit Ethernet plus DVI-D on the basic module. Both are discontinued and share the same successor family.
Do I need a separate power supply module for a CX5020?
No. The CX5020 takes 24 V DC directly and supplies up to 2 A to the I/O terminals. Unlike the older CX1020/CX1030 generation, there is no separate CX1100 power supply module in the rail.
Can this unit run TwinCAT 3?
The -0111 order code is the TwinCAT 2 PLC runtime variant. Beckhoff lists a separate -0115 code for TwinCAT 3 XAR on the CX50x0 family. If your project needs TwinCAT 3, tell us and we will look for that specific order code rather than substituting.
Is the CX5020 still in production?
No. It has been withdrawn from Beckhoff’s current catalogue. Available supply is remaining stock and the refurbished market; each unit is verified before we quote.
