Product information
Product Overview
The EL1809 puts 16 digital inputs for 24 V DC into the same 12 mm wide housing as an 8-channel terminal. It keeps the 3 ms input filter of the EL1008 and adds direct plug-in technology, so a control cabinet full of switch signals occupies half the rail.
It is the terminal for dense, slow, mechanically switched I/O: pushbutton clusters, valve feedback, terminal strips of limit switches, machine mode selectors.
Why Buyers Specify This Model
Twice the channels in the same rail width — that is the whole point
The EL1809 measures 12 × 100 × 68 mm, identical to the 8-channel EL1008, but carries 16 channels. For a machine with a large number of slow switch signals, that halves the rail length and halves the number of terminals to wire.
Weight is approximately 65 g. Beckhoff describes it as a “standard terminal with a high number of channels for slow 24 V DC edges, direct plug-in technology”.
Direct plug-in technology and what it means in the cabinet
Direct plug-in refers to the connection concept: the conductor is pushed in rather than screwed, which speeds up wiring and removes the risk of a loose screw terminal after a few years of vibration. The connection cross-sections are the standard Beckhoff range for this housing — 0.08 … 2.5 mm² solid or stranded, 0.14 … 1.5 mm² with ferrules.
Marking uses the BZxxxx label series, which matters on a 16-channel terminal: label the channels properly at commissioning, because tracing a single signal across 16 without labels is slow work later.
Signal levels and load
Logic 0 is -3 … +5 V and logic 1 is 11 … 30 V; the typical input current is 3 mA. Note that Beckhoff publishes the “0” level per EN 61131-2 type 1/3 and the “1” level per type 3 — which is why the two figures are quoted with slightly different references.
The terminal draws typically 100 mA from the E-bus and 4 mA plus load from the power contacts. Protection rating is IP20 and the installation position is variable, subject to the documentation.

Ordering This Part
Tell us the model and, where an order code exists, the complete code — Beckhoff variants differ in ways that matter, as set out above. For discontinued models, a nameplate photograph is the fastest way to confirm exactly what you have.
- Exact model or order code (including any suffix such as
-0111or-ESvariants) - Quantity required
- Whether you need the terminal alone or a complete station with coupler and power supply
- For replacements: a photo of the existing nameplate or the old order code
We confirm availability and condition before quoting. We do not publish stock levels or lead times on this page because they change; ask and we will answer specifically for your requirement.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I replace two EL1008 modules with one EL1809?
Functionally for slow 24 V DC signals, yes — both have a 3 ms filter and the same signal levels. Check the wiring and labelling though: 16 channels on one terminal means a denser terminal strip, and direct plug-in wiring differs from what your panel builder may be used to.
Does it still have the 3 ms filter?
Yes. It is designed for slow 24 V DC edges from mechanical contacts. It is not a fast input terminal.
How much rail does it save?
The housing is 12 mm wide for 16 channels, the same as the 8-channel EL1008. For a machine with many switch signals, that is roughly half the terminals and half the rail.
How much E-bus current does it draw?
Typically 100 mA, against 90 mA for the 8-channel EL1008. Both are small; the total is what matters against your coupler’s 2000 mA budget.
What is the difference between EL1809 and ES1809?
Only the wiring level — the ES1809 is the pluggable variant. Beckhoff lists both in the ordering information.
