Product information
Product Overview
The EL1008 is an 8-channel digital input terminal for 24 V DC signals. Each of the eight channels has a 3 ms input filter, which makes it the standard choice for mechanically switched signals — pushbuttons, limit switches, relay contacts, float switches — where contact bounce is expected and fast edges are not wanted.
Channels are 1-wire, referenced to the terminal’s 0 V, and electrically isolated from the E-bus at 500 V. There are no address or configuration settings to make.
Why Buyers Specify This Model
The 3 ms filter is a feature, not a limitation
Beckhoff specifies the EL1008 with a typical input filter of 3 ms and describes it as the standard input terminal for bouncing signals. A mechanical contact does not close cleanly; without filtering, one button press can be read as several edges and the PLC program sees phantom counts.
If your application instead needs to catch very short pulses — a registration mark, a fast sensor edge, a cam — a 3 ms filter will miss them. That is the point at which you move to a fast input terminal or to a timestamp terminal such as the EL1252.
Eight channels in a 12 mm housing
The housing is only 12 mm wide (12 × 100 × 68 mm), so eight inputs occupy very little DIN rail. Weight is approximately 55 g. Where even that is too much rail, the EL1809 packs 16 channels into the same form factor.
Wiring is 1-wire with spring actuation by screwdriver, accepting 0.08 … 2.5 mm² solid or stranded, or 0.14 … 1.5 mm² with ferrules. The current load on the power contacts is 10 A maximum.
Current consumption and the E-bus budget
The EL1008 draws a typical 90 mA from the E-bus and a negligible 2 mA plus load from the power contacts. The E-bus figure is the one to add up when planning a station: an EK1100 coupler supplies 2000 mA in total.
Signal levels follow EN 61131-2: logic 0 is -3 … +5 V, logic 1 is 11 … 30 V, with a typical 3 mA input current. Electrical isolation between E-bus and field potential is 500 V.

Ordering This Part
Tell us the model and, where an order code exists, the complete code — Beckhoff variants differ in ways that matter, as set out above. For discontinued models, a nameplate photograph is the fastest way to confirm exactly what you have.
- Exact model or order code (including any suffix such as
-0111or-ESvariants) - Quantity required
- Whether you need the terminal alone or a complete station with coupler and power supply
- For replacements: a photo of the existing nameplate or the old order code
We confirm availability and condition before quoting. We do not publish stock levels or lead times on this page because they change; ask and we will answer specifically for your requirement.
Frequently Asked Questions
EL1008 or EL1809 — how do I choose?
Channel count against rail width. Both have a 3 ms filter and 1-wire connection. The EL1008 gives 8 channels in a 12 mm housing; the EL1809 gives 16 channels in the same 12 mm housing and uses direct plug-in technology. If rail space is the constraint, take the EL1809.
Why does it have a 3 ms filter?
It is designed for mechanically switched signals where contact bounce would otherwise be read as multiple edges. If you need to detect pulses shorter than about 3 ms, this is the wrong terminal — use a fast input or a timestamp terminal instead.
What is the difference between EL1008 and ES1008?
Only the wiring level. The ES1008 has a pluggable wiring level; the EL1008 is fixed. Beckhoff lists both in the ordering information for this product.
How much E-bus current does it use?
Typically 90 mA. Add that to the other terminals behind your coupler and check the total against the coupler’s 2000 mA E-bus supply.
What approvals does the EL1008 carry?
CE, CCC, UL, ATEX, IECEx, DNV and cFMus, as published by Beckhoff, with ATEX II 3G Ex ec IIC T4 Gc / IECEx Ex ec IIC T4 Gc marking. Protection rating is IP20.
