Product information
Product Overview
A CX1020 Embedded PC CPU module in the -0111 configuration: DVI/USB interface + Windows CE + TwinCAT PLC runtime. The CX1020 is a DIN rail PC that combines PC technology with the modular Bus Terminal / EtherCAT Terminal I/O level, so that PLC and motion control logic runs directly on the machine rather than in a separate control cabinet PC.
This page is written for buyers and maintenance engineers sourcing CX1020-0111 as a spare or a replacement for an installed machine. Every specification below is taken from Beckhoff’s own published data for this model; no third-party or estimated figures are used.
Beckhoff official designation: CX1020 / CX1030 Embedded-PC. Official manual: “Manual CX1020 / CX1030 Embedded-PC”, EN, version 2.2.
Why Buyers Specify This Model
What the “-0111” suffix actually means
Beckhoff order codes for the CX CPU module are built from three digits. The last digit selects the software: 0 = no TwinCAT, 1 = TwinCAT PLC runtime, 2 = TwinCAT NC PTP runtime, 3 = TwinCAT NC I runtime. The second digit selects the operating system: 0 = none, 1 = Windows CE, 2 = Windows XP Embedded. The third digit adds the DVI/USB interface. Beckhoff’s own ordering table in the CX1020/CX1030 manual lists CX1020-0111 as DVI/USB, Windows CE, TwinCAT PLC runtime — that is the exact configuration you are buying here.
This matters because CX1020 units are frequently listed online with the order code only. A -0110 has no TwinCAT runtime licence and a -0112 carries NC PTP instead of PLC. If your project uses motion axes, matching the suffix is not optional.
A CPU module, not a complete PC — the power supply is separate
The CX1020 CPU module on its own has no mains connection. It is supplied through the PC104 system bus from a CX1100-000x system power supply module, which is ordered separately. The passive cooling module, by contrast, is included and is factory-mounted to the CPU module.
This is the single most common mistake when replacing a CX1020: the replacement arrives, the engineer finds no 24 V terminals, and the machine stays down. If your existing unit is a multi-component assembly, tell us which modules are on the rail and we will quote the individual pieces rather than assume.
Fanless by design — why that still matters after all these years
The CX1020 uses an Intel Celeron M ULV processor with a thermal design power of only 7 W TDP, so no fan is required. Boot and storage media are Compact Flash rather than a rotating disk. Both choices exist to raise the MTBF of the complete system: no bearing, no filter mat, no dust ingress path into the electronics.
For a machine that is still running, that is the practical argument for repairing rather than replacing the controller: a passive CX1020 has no wearing parts except the clock battery.

Specifications on this page are the technical data published by Beckhoff for the CX1020-0000 base CPU module in the official CX1020 / CX1030 manual (EN, version 2.2). The -0111 order code differs only in the factory-fitted software image and the DVI/USB interface — the hardware data below applies unchanged.

Lifecycle and Successor Models
This model is discontinued. Beckhoff no longer lists CX1020 in its current product catalogue and the CX1020 product page has been withdrawn from beckhoff.com. The CX1020 / CX1030 hardware manual remains available from Beckhoff’s documentation server, which is what the specifications on this page are based on.
The current equivalent platform is the CX51x0 family (CX5120 / CX5130 / CX5140, Intel Atom). Migration is not a drop-in swap: the mechanical width, the power supply concept and the operating system generation all differ, and existing TwinCAT 2 projects need to be re-verified on the target platform. For an installed machine, keeping the existing CX1020 architecture unchanged is normally the lower-risk route.
We are a trading and sourcing company, not Beckhoff. We supply what is genuinely available and we tell you when it is not. For discontinued hardware, condition and provenance are verified per unit — send us a nameplate photo and we will confirm before you commit.
Official Documentation
Beckhoff has withdrawn this product’s own web page from beckhoff.com. The specifications on this page therefore come from the manufacturer’s official hardware manual for the base module, which Beckhoff still publishes, plus the official ordering table inside that manual. Check them against the source:
- Manual CX1020 / CX1030 Embedded-PC (EN, Version 2.2, 11/12/2021) — downloadable PDF from Beckhoff’s documentation server.
- Canonical Beckhoff documentation link for CX1020-0111.
- Beckhoff official product family page — current CX51x0 family, for comparison when a migration is being considered.
Ordering This Part
Tell us the model and, where an order code exists, the complete code — Beckhoff variants differ in ways that matter, as set out above. For discontinued models, a nameplate photograph is the fastest way to confirm exactly what you have.
- Exact model or order code (including any suffix such as
-0111or-ESvariants) - Quantity required
- Whether you need the terminal alone or a complete station with coupler and power supply
- For replacements: a photo of the existing nameplate or the old order code
We confirm availability and condition before quoting. We do not publish stock levels or lead times on this page because they change; ask and we will answer specifically for your requirement.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is CX1020-0111 the same as CX1020-0110 or CX1020-0112?
No. They share the same CPU hardware but differ in the factory software image. -0110 has Windows CE with no TwinCAT runtime, -0111 has Windows CE with the TwinCAT PLC runtime, and -0112 has Windows CE with the TwinCAT NC PTP runtime. Only -0111 includes a PLC runtime licence out of the box.
Do I need to order a power supply module as well?
Yes, if you are building or rebuilding a complete unit. The CPU module is powered through the PC104 system bus from a CX1100-000x system power supply module, which is a separate order item. The passive cooling module is included with the CPU module.
Can I run TwinCAT 3 on a CX1020?
Beckhoff’s documentation for this generation lists the supported control software as TwinCAT PLC Runtime, TwinCAT NC PTP Runtime and TwinCAT NC I Runtime. If your project requires TwinCAT 3, plan the move to a current CX51x0 / CX52x0 platform instead of trying to retrofit it. Tell us the software you need and we will confirm what the specific unit supports.
Is the CX1020 still available new?
No. The CX1020 has been withdrawn from Beckhoff’s current catalogue and is no longer produced. What circulates today is remaining stock and the second-hand / refurbished market. We source per unit and verify the nameplate before offering.
What replaces a CX1020 in an existing machine?
The current platform family is the CX51x0 series (Intel Atom). It is not mechanically or software-compatible with a CX1020, so treat it as a project rather than a part swap: new mounting, different power supply arrangement, and a TwinCAT project that has to be re-tested. If the goal is simply to keep a running machine running, replacing like for like is usually cheaper.
