Product information
Product Overview
The CX1030 is the higher-performance member of the CX1020/CX1030 pair: where the CX1020 uses a 1 GHz Celeron M, the CX1030 carries an Intel Pentium M at 1.8 GHz. The configuration offered here is CX1030-0111: DVI/USB interface, Windows CE and the TwinCAT PLC runtime.
Use it where a CX1020 would be marginal — larger PLC programs, faster cycle times, or TwinCAT with visualisation on the same unit. Every specification below comes from Beckhoff’s own published data for this model.
Why Buyers Specify This Model
The one thing that differs from a CX1020: active cooling
The CX1030 dissipates more heat than a passive housing can shed, so Beckhoff specifies an active cooling module with a fan. The module is included in the scope of supply and is factory-mounted to the CPU module; Beckhoff notes that the fan blower can be replaced without tooling.
For a maintenance engineer this is the part of a CX1030 that eventually fails. If a CX1030 installation is reporting over-temperature or random resets, the blower and the clearance around the housing are the first things to check. Beckhoff requires a minimum clearance of 30 mm above and below a CX1020/CX1030 device combination, and the system must be mounted horizontally so the ventilation openings can work.
It needs a different power supply module than the CX1020
Beckhoff specifies a CX1100-001x system power supply for the CX1030, whereas the CX1020 uses the CX1100-000x. They are not interchangeable. If you are replacing a CX1020 with a CX1030 on the same rail, the power supply module has to be reviewed as part of the job, not assumed.
Decoding the “-0111” order code
Beckhoff’s ordering table for the CX1030 lists CX1030-0111 as DVI/USB + Windows CE + TwinCAT PLC runtime — the same suffix logic as the CX1020. The last digit selects the runtime (0 none, 1 PLC, 2 NC PTP, 3 NC I), the middle digit the operating system, the leading digit the DVI/USB option.
Because both the CX1020 and the CX1030 use this scheme, the suffixes are easy to confuse across the two models. Quote the full code when enquiring and we will match it exactly.

Lifecycle and Successor Models
This model is discontinued. The CX1030 has been withdrawn from Beckhoff’s current product catalogue; the CX1020 / CX1030 hardware manual is still published and is the source for the data on this page.
The successor platform is the CX52x0 / CX53x0 family (Intel Atom). As with the CX1020, this is a platform change rather than a part swap — different housing width, different power supply, newer operating system generation, and TwinCAT projects that must be re-validated.
We supply discontinued Beckhoff hardware from verified stock only. Ask for the nameplate details and we will confirm condition and provenance before quoting.
Official Documentation
Beckhoff has withdrawn this product’s own web page from beckhoff.com. The specifications on this page therefore come from the manufacturer’s official hardware manual for the base module, which Beckhoff still publishes, plus the official ordering table inside that manual. Check them against the source:
- Manual CX1020 / CX1030 Embedded-PC (EN, Version 2.2, 11/12/2021) — downloadable PDF from Beckhoff’s documentation server.
- Canonical Beckhoff documentation link for CX1030-0111.
- Beckhoff official product family page — current CX52x0 family, for comparison when a migration is being considered.
Ordering This Part
Tell us the model and, where an order code exists, the complete code — Beckhoff variants differ in ways that matter, as set out above. For discontinued models, a nameplate photograph is the fastest way to confirm exactly what you have.
- Exact model or order code (including any suffix such as
-0111or-ESvariants) - Quantity required
- Whether you need the terminal alone or a complete station with coupler and power supply
- For replacements: a photo of the existing nameplate or the old order code
We confirm availability and condition before quoting. We do not publish stock levels or lead times on this page because they change; ask and we will answer specifically for your requirement.
Frequently Asked Questions
CX1020 or CX1030 — which one do I have?
Check the printed order code on the CPU module. The CX1020 runs a 1 GHz Intel Celeron M ULV and is passively cooled; the CX1030 runs a 1.8 GHz Intel Pentium M and has an active cooling module with a fan. The order code prefix (CX1020- / CX1030-) is the definitive answer.
Does the CX1030 need a different power supply module?
Yes. Beckhoff specifies a CX1100-001x system power supply module for the CX1030; the CX1020 uses the CX1100-000x. Confirm which module is on your rail before ordering a replacement CPU.
Why does the CX1030 have a fan while the CX1020 does not?
Processor thermal design power. The CX1020’s 1 GHz Celeron M ULV runs at roughly 7 W TDP and can be cooled passively; the 1.8 GHz Pentium M in the CX1030 cannot. Beckhoff supplies the active cooling module with the CPU module and notes that the blower can be changed without tools.
What clearance does a CX1030 need in the cabinet?
Beckhoff requires a minimum clearance of 30 mm above and below a CX1020/CX1030 device combination and horizontal mounting, so that the ventilation openings at the top and bottom of the housing can do their job. Restricted airflow is a common cause of thermal faults on this generation.
Is CX1030-0111 still produced?
No. It has been withdrawn from Beckhoff’s current catalogue. Available units are remaining stock or refurbished. We verify each unit before offering and will say plainly when a part cannot be sourced with confidence.
