Product information

Product Overview

Omron’s 48 × 48 mm digital temperature controller: universal input, 50 ms sampling, dual 4-digit PV/SV display and a 60 mm short body. The E5CC is the workhorse of the family — relay, SSR-driving voltage or linear current control output, screw, push-in or plug-in terminals.

This page is written for buyers and maintenance engineers sourcing E5CC as a new part or a replacement. Every specification below is taken from Omron’s own published data for this model; no third-party or estimated figures are used, and where Omron publishes two different figures or two variants for the same parameter, both are shown.

Omron catalogue designation: E5CC / E5CC-B / E5CC-U digital temperature controller, 48 × 48 mm. Official catalogue code for this model: E5CC-800 series (48 × 48 mm).

Why Buyers Specify This Model

50 ms sampling and 0.3% accuracy is where the E5CC sits

±0.3% PV indication accuracy on thermocouple input with a 50 ms sampling period. In practice this is the tier where control stops being the limiting factor in an extrusion barrel, a packaging sealer or a reflow zone. The E5CC-U plug-in variant drops to ±1% PV — the price of the plug-in body — so the two are not equivalent for tight processes.

The white 15.2 mm PV display is a maintenance decision, not a cosmetic one

The change from red to a white 4-digit PV display at 15.2 mm of character height was made so the value can be read from further away and under poor panel lighting. On a machine where operators read setpoints through a window all day, that is the feature that gets noticed.

Three terminal systems for three different panels

E5CC with screw terminals, E5CC-B with Push-In Plus terminals for reduced wiring time, and E5CC-U as a plug-in that can be removed from the terminal block without unwiring. Where controller swap-out time matters — multi-zone machines with dozens of controllers — the E5CC-U is the one that matters. They are different product codes, not options.

Programless communication between controllers

E5CC supports component communications so controllers can be linked to each other and to a PLC without an explicit communications program. On a multi-zone machine this removes the serial programming work and the cable-by-cable commissioning.

Model number position “A” means 100–240 VAC and “D” means 24 VAC/VDC. The control output code is a two-character pair: RX = relay, QX = voltage output for SSR drive, CX = linear current — the second character describes control output 2 (X = none). Read both characters before ordering; the code determines whether the controller can drive an SSR directly.

Lifecycle and availability

Omron’s E5CC range is a current, actively developed product line. Its datasheet (Cat. No. H177-E1-11) runs to 138 pages of specifications, model numbering and dimensions, and Omron continues to issue options and accessory codes against it.

Because the E5CC exists in three body types and a wide spread of output, supply and option combinations, the model number carries real information. Send the complete number — including the option suffix — or, for a replacement, a photograph of the controller label. We will confirm it against Omron’s official lineup rather than supply a near-equivalent.

Availability, condition of supply and lead time are quoted per enquiry because they depend on quantity and on where the goods are held. We do not publish stock or lead time as fixed figures on this page. Tell us the quantity and the date you need it and we will answer with a firm position rather than a promise.

Official Documentation

The specifications on this page are taken from Omron’s own documents. You can download the source document directly:

Full technical detail — wiring diagrams, derating curves, installation requirements and the complete ordering tables — is in that document. If you need a specific figure we do not show here, ask and we will point you to the exact page rather than paraphrase it.

Ordering This Part

Send us the full catalogue number E5CC-800 series (48 × 48 mm) (and the model number E5CC you are replacing), the quantity, your delivery address and the date you need the goods. If it is a replacement, attach a photograph of the existing unit’s nameplate — it removes any doubt about the revision, the output type or the supply voltage, which are the three things that most often cause a wrong part to be shipped.

We do not publish stock, condition or lead time as fixed figures here, because they change: they are quoted per enquiry against the quantity and date you actually need. If a machine is down, say so and give us the required window — that is the information that determines how we source it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which E5CC body type do I need?

E5CC = screw terminal blocks (with cover), E5CC-B = Push-In Plus terminal blocks, E5CC-U = plug-in model removable from the terminal block. The body dimensions and panel cutout are the same 48 × 48 mm; what changes is how the wires land and how fast the controller can be swapped.

Rx, Qx or Cx — which control output?

RX is a relay output, for directly switching a heater contactor or a small load. QX is a voltage output for driving an SSR. CX is a linear current output (4–20 mA / 0–20 mA), for driving a power controller or a valve positioner. Choosing wrongly means the controller cannot drive what is on the panel.

24 VDC or 100–240 VAC supply?

Position “A” is 100 to 240 VAC and “D” is 24 VAC/24 VDC. The DC version is the usual choice where the panel is already 24 V and the machine must not be live when the supply is isolated.

Does it need a separate power supply for configuration?

No — with a Communications Conversion Cable the controller can be set up from a computer over USB without wiring the power supply. On a multi-controller panel that turns a day of wiring and configuration into an afternoon.
