Product information

Product Overview

The EL2008 is the standard 8-channel 24 V DC digital output terminal: 0.5 A per channel, short-circuit proof, reverse polarity protected, in a 12 mm housing. It is the default choice for a machine’s general-purpose output bank.

It consumes typically 110 mA from the E-bus; the power contacts carry 15 mA plus load.

Why Buyers Specify This Model

Eight channels is the practical default

Most machines have between four and sixteen discrete outputs of the same type — valve solenoids, indicator lamps, small contactors, enable signals. Eight per terminal hits that range without leaving half a module unused, and the 12 mm housing keeps the rail short.

Beckhoff’s 0.5 A rating with short-circuit proofing and reverse polarity protection covers the majority of those loads. Note the switching-off energy limit of < 150 mJ per channel for inductive loads.

The ES variant matters more than it looks

Beckhoff lists the ES2008 as the same terminal with a pluggable wiring level. On a machine that will be serviced over many years, a pluggable level means a failed terminal can be exchanged without disturbing the field wiring.

That is worth deciding at design time rather than after the first failure. Both codes are listed in the ordering information for this product and we can quote either.

Identical behaviour to the EL2004 and EL2809

The switching times and protections are the same across Beckhoff’s 0.5 A output family: typical 60 µs on, 300 µs off, short-circuit current below 2 A, reverse polarity protection, 150 mJ switching-off energy limit. What changes between EL2004 / EL2008 / EL2809 is the number of channels, not the electrical behaviour.

That is convenient for spares and for panel builders: one behaviour to design around, three channel counts to choose from.

Ordering This Part

Tell us the model and, where an order code exists, the complete code — Beckhoff variants differ in ways that matter, as set out above. For discontinued models, a nameplate photograph is the fastest way to confirm exactly what you have.

  • Exact model or order code (including any suffix such as -0111 or -ES variants)
  • Quantity required
  • Whether you need the terminal alone or a complete station with coupler and power supply
  • For replacements: a photo of the existing nameplate or the old order code

We confirm availability and condition before quoting. We do not publish stock levels or lead times on this page because they change; ask and we will answer specifically for your requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the EL2008 differ from the EL2004?

Channel count only — 8 versus 4 — with the same 0.5 A rating, the same short-circuit and reverse polarity protection and the same switching times. Both are 12 mm wide.

Should I order the EL2008 or the ES2008?

The ES2008 has a pluggable wiring level, so a terminal can be replaced without touching the field wiring. On equipment that will be serviced for years, that is usually worth the difference. We can quote both.

What is the maximum load per channel?

0.5 A, short-circuit proof, for resistive, inductive and lamp loads, with a switching-off energy limit of less than 150 mJ per channel. For higher currents, use a relay output terminal or an interposing relay.

How much E-bus current does it need?

Typically 110 mA. The power contacts draw typically 15 mA plus the load current.

What approvals are listed?

CE, CCC, UL, ATEX, IECEx, DNV and cFMus, as published by Beckhoff, with the ATEX / IECEx Ex ec IIC T4 Gc marking. Protection rating IP20.
