Product information

Product Overview

The EL3014 is a 4-channel analog input terminal for 0 … 20 mA current signals, digitised at 12 bit with differential inputs. Current loops are chosen in industrial environments because they tolerate long cable runs and induced noise far better than voltage signals.

Each channel is electrically isolated from the E-bus at 500 V. Conversion is multiplexed, with a default conversion time of 0.625 ms.

Why Buyers Specify This Model

Why current, not voltage

A 4 … 20 mA or 0 … 20 mA loop is largely immune to the resistance of the cable and to the small voltages induced by drives and contactors nearby. A 0 … 10 V signal over the same run loses accuracy as the loop resistance changes and picks up noise.

The EL3014’s internal resistance is typically 85 Ω plus diode voltage, which is the value the transmitter has to drive. Check the transmitter’s maximum load specification against that before committing — it is the compatibility question that actually decides whether a loop works.

Differential inputs and common mode range

The four inputs are differential, with a common mode voltage tolerance of up to 10 V. Differential measurement cancels the noise that appears equally on both conductors, which is exactly the noise a current loop is exposed to in a cabinet full of drives.

Combined with the 500 V electrical isolation between E-bus and signal voltage, that makes the EL3014 usable where a single-ended input would be marginal.

Resolution, accuracy and filtering

Resolution is 12 bit (presented as 16 bit including sign) and the measurement error is specified as less than ±0.3% relative to full scale. The input filter cut-off frequency is 1 kHz, and Beckhoff lists activatable FIR/IIR filters and limit value monitoring as special features.

12 bit over a 20 mA span is roughly 5 µA per digit. Where that is not enough — weighing, precise pressure or flow control — step up to a 16-bit input terminal instead of trying to average your way there in the PLC program.

Ordering This Part

Tell us the model and, where an order code exists, the complete code — Beckhoff variants differ in ways that matter, as set out above. For discontinued models, a nameplate photograph is the fastest way to confirm exactly what you have.

  • Exact model or order code (including any suffix such as -0111 or -ES variants)
  • Quantity required
  • Whether you need the terminal alone or a complete station with coupler and power supply
  • For replacements: a photo of the existing nameplate or the old order code

We confirm availability and condition before quoting. We do not publish stock levels or lead times on this page because they change; ask and we will answer specifically for your requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions

12 bit or 16 bit — how do I choose?

12 bit over a 0 … 20 mA span is about 5 µA per digit, with a specified error below ±0.3% of full scale. For monitoring and general control that is usually enough. For weighing, precision dosing or metrology-grade measurement, choose a 16-bit input terminal.

Can I use it for 4 … 20 mA transmitters?

Yes. The terminal measures 0 … 20 mA, which includes the 4 … 20 mA range. Check the transmitter’s permissible load against the terminal’s typical 85 Ω internal resistance plus diode voltage before committing.

What is the conversion time?

0.625 ms as the default setting, configurable, multiplexed across the four channels. Remember that multiplexing means the channels are not all sampled at the same instant.

Does it have adjustable filters?

Yes. Beckhoff lists activatable FIR/IIR filters and limit value monitoring as special features, with a 1 kHz input filter cut-off frequency.

What is the difference between EL3014 and ES3014?

Only the wiring level — the ES3014 has a pluggable wiring level. Both are listed in Beckhoff’s ordering information for this product.
